I am inspired by the elusive dance between light and shadow – loving bright colors and the bold contrast of monochromes. Using a variety of mediums, including WS oils, soft pastels, watercolors and drawings mediums, my painterly realism style strives to create an interesting balance between impressionism and realism.
My choice of subjects comes from my personal ideas about beauty and those subjects that stir my soul. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to discover the beauty of the world around them and to create excitement, curiosity and even evoke recollections from the viewer.
I currently reside in Sealy, Texas and enjoy painting both in the studio and outdoors. I am a member of the Oil Painters of America, NOAPS and the Outdoor Painter’s Society.

I’ve lived in College Station for twenty years now, and this is my last semester at Blinn getting my Associates of Art in Art! I’ve painted a mural in AMCHS, some mural installations with the AMCHS art club, and I recently painted a mural in Colorado. I’ve been studying digital media, photography, and videography for the last year.

From her studio in a one-hundred-year-old house she restored in the historic district of Downtown Temple, Texas, Susan is creating images of the things she loves using oil and canvas.
A graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in fine art and graphic design she has been painting and drawing from a very early age. Plein air, studio work, and commission work are a part of her art journey, and she especially enjoys painting animals. Retired from a 30-year graphic design career she teaches art and workshops and works as a freelance graphic designer and photographer. She can also be found hosting guests at the Airbnb located upstairs above her studio that she owns and operates. Click to view the Airbnb.
Whenever she has a chance, you will find her enjoying nature, painting outdoors, biking, fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying playtime with her miniature dachshund, Sophie, all the time scouting for the perfect location for her next Plein Air Creation.
Artist Statement:
Art is a visual love language that helps me communicate the importance of the people, animals, places, landscapes, and experiences in my life. As I paint and draw, it teaches me about the gift of life and what God is presenting to me. It is my way to share what I see and experience.

I have been painting since I was 8. I attended Sam Houston University in the early 60’s. Back then all of our work was Plein Air. Unfortunately I have gotten spoiled by studio painting. Now in my golden (really golden) years I am trying to relearn the skill and pleasure of Plein Air. I have a studio just west of Centerville. I am actually quite busy with teaching, commissions and showing my work in Buffalo at 904 Gallery and G. Lee Gallery in Galveston. I also participate in private art receptions in the area. I painted 3 of the deer that grace the square and downtown in Centerville.
